The exceptional snowfalls of recent weeks left their mark on the Valais trails: uprooted trees, blocked paths, access roads that simply weren't passable any more. After several days of work, a large part of the network is open and safe again.
What the snow left behind
The weight of the snow brought whole trees down across the trails, tore off branches and made some access points impossible. On the worst-hit sectors there wasn't even a visible line left: you had to clear the ground before you could tell where the path went.
We picked up the chainsaws and got on with it
We didn't wait for someone else to deal with it. As soon as conditions allowed, Exoride and a few friends headed out with chainsaws and gear loaded in the van. And where the van could no longer go, the chainsaws finished the journey strapped to our backs, on e-bikes, all the way to the most remote sectors.
Several days of work, wood to cut, trunks to shift, sections to re-trace. Nothing spectacular, just people who care about their playground.
The result: from Thursday 1 May, the Exoride MTB shuttles are running again, on trails in perfect condition.
A trail network maintained for everyone
This work doesn't only benefit our guests. A reopened trail is a trail given back to everyone who uses it: mountain bikers, hikers, trail runners, families out for a walk. We make our living on this terrain, so looking after it feels like the obvious thing to do, and not only after a storm.
The job isn't finished either. There are still sections to clear, and we're carrying on until the whole network is open again.
